I've run SuSE 8.0, 8.1, 9.0, 9.1 and 9.2. I've also read about QA problems
in 9.1, but having run 9.1 since it was released, apart from a Kernel
problem with writing audio CD's (is fixed AFAIK, and didn't directly affect
me anyway, I tried burning an audio CD to confirm the problem for somebody
posting here, but I burn audio CD's once in a blue moon), I haven't seen
any QA problems myself.
Samba came in for a lot of stick under 9.1, regularly being cited as broken,
but I've been running my Samba server as a Windows PDC machine since May
without any obvious problems. The problem often turned out to be
mis-configuration, mis-understandings or specific issues relating to
network configuration/hardware.
I think a lot of the problems were probably down to hardware, and
manufacturers not providing drivers.
My laptop, for me, was a special case. It worked under 8.0, can't remember
whether it worked under 8.1, but under 9.0 and 9.1, the APM was broken, it
had to be turned off and the install done in safe mode, otherwise the
machine went into suspend mode ever 30-90 seconds! With 9.2, the problem
has been cured and it installs with APM switched on - but the laptop has
always caused problems, the keyboard and mouse stop responding randomly
(under Windows, this means removing the power cell and AC current, with
Linux, starting a remote ssh session and issuing a shutdown, and that is
internal keyboard and touchpad and external keyboards and mice (USB and
PS/2)).
