I can't say I have a solution (well I could say it but I'd be lying) but I
know what you mean. My SBLive! Player pulled this hairraising stunt on me on
RedHat 9. Never found what caused it, it suddenly appeared and was gone
after I moved that box to Fedora. It was LOUD! I am still curious what may
have been the cause, I could find no clear indication of any fault. The only
thing I did was making sure my amp was switched off during boot, and my gf
gave me worried looks everytime I turned the monster off and back on.
