The whole "Linux/Open-Source/Etc is safer because it's less popular" isn't
completely true either. I don't dispute there is some truth to it, but
it's not a complete explanation. Apache is far more wide spread than IIS,
yet the vast majority (by far) of web server attacks are based on IIS
flaws.
In my opinion: Of course more Linux/Open Source/Whatever exploits will show
up as popularity increases. However, I believe there are less of holes to
be exploited, they are less easily exploited, they are less severe, and
they are/will be without a doubt fixed more quickly.
