locking display sometimes crashes XFree86

I'm running SUSE 9.1 on an xw8000 with two video cards (Nvidia Quadro
NVS 280 AGP, Nvidia Quadro NVS 280 PCI) supporting two monitors in a
Xinerama configuration. Sometimes when I lock my display with the
lock/logout applet, I'm bounced back to the login screen; and when I
check my XFree86.0.log, I see

Fatal server error:
Caught signal 11. Server aborting
Does anyone have any idea what might be going wrong?
