Hello all,
I am also having the same trouble with my KDE installation on SuSE 9.2.

The '<' and '>' keys (also altgr variant '|') don't work in the KDE
environment - it works normally on the virtual text consoles as well as
in other window environments (windowmaker, Gnome).
When checking the keyboard settings with the Yast keyboard modeule, it
suddenly works, even if I don't make any change (just after starting the
module).

Here is what I found out so far:

I ran xev and pressed the key. Pressing the "<" key results in the
following Event:

>> KeyPress event, serial 31, synthetic NO, window 0x3600002,
>> root 0x58, subw 0x3600003, time 2164213, (33,46), root:(705,70),
>> state 0x10, keycode 94 (keysym 0x0, NoSymbol), same_screen YES,
>> XLookupString gives 0 bytes:
>> XmbLookupString gives 0 bytes:
>> XFilterEvent returns: False

>> root 0x58, subw 0x3600003, time 2164328, (33,46), root:(705,70),
>> state 0x10, keycode 94 (keysym 0x0, NoSymbol), same_screen YES,
>> XLookupString gives 0 bytes:

Obviously the key results in keycode 94, but is not mapped.

I called "xmodmap -pke" and got an empty line for the keycode 94, which
is consistent to the result of xev.

After starting the Yast module without doing any changes "xmodmap -pke"
reports:
>> "keycode 94 = less greater bar brokenbar bar brokenbar"

I think these are the correct settings.

Next try: Put the line "keycode 94 = less greater bar brokenbar bar
brokenbar" in ~/.xmodmaprc and call "xmodmap .xmodmaprc" after logging in.

Now the '<' and '>' characters work, but not the '|' character.

I am puzzled!!

By the Way, I already checked the settings in /etc/X11/XF86Config file
(there were some postings about a wrong entry for XkbRules:
>> Section "InputDevice"
>> Driver "keyboard"
>> Identifier "Keyboard[0]"
>> Option "Protocol" "Standard"
>> Option "XkbLayout" "de,us_intl"
>> Option "XkbModel" "pc105"
>> Option "XkbRules" "xfree86"
>> Option "XkbVariant" "nodeadkeys,"
>> EndSection

I am running a SuSE 9.2 right out of the box:
kdebase3-3.3.0-29
kdebase3-SuSE-9.2-7
kdebase3-kdm-3.3.0-29
xf86tools-0.1-968
xorg-x11-6.8.1-15

Any Help and advice is appreciated! Thanks in advance!
