Thanks for your comments. Although the card is recognised in yast and I
have configured it as dhcp, It does not seem to be doing much. I also
installed Kwifi-manager it was on one of the cds.

When it is not in range of a wireless network it is all dead. When it is
in a good signal range, the Kwifi-manager window has the top title bar
showing a scrollling effect, but the window content shows no signal
strength even with a good signal, although the 'scanning' box is
apparently being refreshed or started and restarted etc.

In a friends house I could not connect with (suse linux). His network
used encryption ( WPA ?? - it was not WEP anyway), but I did not
understand the kwifi manager configuration entries, so it almost
certainly did not get configured in kwifi manager properly.

Is there a newbies guide to using this anywhere?

When I got home I tried iwconfig but nothing was configured, strange.
What am I missing?

I am hoping for some indication of a nearby network, with any basic
information displayed such as network name etc etc, and signal strength.

Should I see something like that when in a good signal area?

What should I see if there is no network nearby?

What can I do (in yast maybe?) to end up with useful results from iwconfig?

I note that my netgear card is indicated as WG511 v2 (note v2) I hope
this is ok for similar success as others I have seen posting.

I had kifi installed at one stage, but removed it later.

Suggestions would be appreciated.
