Suse 9.2 run levels, and installation

I set up my system as a single machine with multiple users without a
remote network (supposing the internet does not count as such in this
respect).
What difference does it make whether I boot to runlevel 2 (which
apparently was pre-set for this configuration) or 5?

By the way, the installation (from the CD out of the box on a empty
partition - no up date of an existing o.s.) crashed three times for
various reasons.
(P4 2.8mhz, Asus mainboard, 512 ram)
