Hello:
a long time ago, I thought and still think that Pegasus Mail (PMAIL) was
the best MAIL client.
For about >4 yrs I have used kmail, I am not satisfied, but it is still in
my view the best compromise on Linux... and getting better.
I have tried Thunderbird 0.9 and was not to impressed: to much like
"Oulook": bulky, heavy too complex.
I hope that one day, either PMAIL functionality and clean, simple power will
be available in kmail... or something else on Linux.
One strong plus for Thunderbird, is that if you have a dual boot system, you
may use the same application under Windows, Linux with the same mailbox.
Great for transition, great for filesharing, great if you decide your mail
folder/directories to be on a remote (networked) disk.
Conclusion: So far I stick with KMAIL (slowly getting better) , but wish I
could dedicate some time and energy to tune it to my tastes, add what is
missing (For one cannot edit the subject line to add a note on
existing/received mail, also flags do not stick, etc...)
Also the spam filters are not obvious to make work: so far no success.
Note that if you use mbox, the KMAIL mailbox are readable by Thunderbird...
which creates "stupid" index files that you have to manually delte to be
able to use kmail again. Of course the subfolders arborescence is not
"portable".
There is a specification for email filies (RFC) ... that unfortunatly no
applications seems to follow.
It would be great if we could kmail AND/OR Thunderbird etc... to
read/write/send emails. We are not there yet.
