Suse 9.2 installation problems

I have an older computer with an Abit LX6 mobo and a new WD 80 gig drive
and a CDROM. No other peripherals attached.

The install seems straightforward enough through CD1. Then just before
the reboot, I get an error message that grub was unable to install.

What's going on?

I am on my 3rd attempt at installing Suse. I may have missed an error
message in the first attempt which rebooted only to hang at grub.
