Suse 9.2
ATI 9200 flgx driver
SB Live 24-bit audio
Ok, the status is:
1. dri open 3gl (working)
2. dvd xv video (working)
3. tv video (not working)
4. analog and direct access sound (working - but with configuration issues)
5. digital sound - including streaming and cd/digital ( not working ).
Notes
1. Excellent and superb performance of the ati 9200 when using the x.org
server. I don't know if it's x.org or if ati just wrote the drivers
right this time or what...but if you have any doubts about going to 9.2
and you do any kind of gaming...definitely make the upgrade.
2. dvd is flawless and superior to XP in handling dvds that may have
scratches or other media errors. No contest, it's a winner.
3. When I launch the KDE tv application the screen goes blank. I have
to do a Ctrl-Bckspc to get out of it, and even then the framebuffer
seems torqued for good. Have to re-startx to get it back.
4. I can hear sound from ut2004 and from dvds. However, I have to use
a strange process to get it working. Sadly, it's similar to the process
that I used when I was just running my on board via chipset audio, and
part of the reason I went to trouble of buying a sound card was that
'advocates' told me to ( of course, they then said I bought the *wrong*
sound card, but that's the way it goes ).
To get my sound working, after boot I:
a. Go to control center, hardware, sound card and run the test sound for
my card...at that point no sound is heard -- however, I think it is
/queued/ somewhere.
b. Go to control center, sounds and multimedia, go to the 2nd tab and
change a setting -- any setting! -- such as duplex and at that point the
sound that I launched in (a) starts playing. If someone could tell me
why, I'd love to know, but it seems that artS queues it up and somehow
changing a setting here re-initializes it.
5. This I think is the published state of the ca0106 driver and I'm
using Alsa 1.0.9 RC2 so I hope that if it becomes a release they get the
driver fully working...else its time to trash this card and get a Terratec.
