Hi
Regular browsers will probably be aware that I and others have had a
hard drive detection problem and that the chief suspect is Linux.
There has been no solution in spite of a welter of advice. Sadly,
that must mean that there are folk out there suffering this same
problem.
My ultimate response (not a solution) has been to retire a HD and swap
one between machines.
So, now I have to install Linux on two slave drives because my Linux
is on the retired drive.
The 80Gb slave on the new (3½ years old) machine has become the master
on the old machine. It has two windows primary partitions on it but I
intend to abandon windows on the second partition so that it operates
XP as the only O/S on the master. XP is already installed and my
Internet and home networks are in good order. The existing slave is a
20Gb drive and I intend to dedicate this to Linux. The fs is FAT32.
Should I just go ahead and install Linux into a single partition on
the entire drive?
The second installation is to the slave on my new machine. The slave
hard drive is now the unformatted 160Gb Maxtor. I intend to partition
it into about half a dozen partitions of Fat32 and have Linux as the
only O/S. XP is already running on the master hard drive which is 40Gb
with the primary partition being 20GB.
Is this ok? Any advice is always welcome.
Colin
