Thanks - I did a somewhat cautious experiment - it seems with a measure
of success - it seems to work as far as I have investigated:
I have already got an installation of thunderbird on a spare (suse)
linux PC, and I used this as the target system. The windows pc and the
suse linux pc are on a small (windows) network.
I used the samba network facility from the linux PC (in the small lan
with mixed windows and linux pcs) - (I think this gets round a possible
difficulty of writing directly from linux into ntfs in a single dual
boot pc).
Firstly (so that it would be at least possible to get back to the
original native thunderbird configuration in suse) in the target suse
linux PC I renamed the
/home/user/.thunderbird/xxxxxxxx.default/prefs.js
to be
/home/user/.thunderbird/xxxxxxxx.default/orig-prefs.js
and
/home/user/.thunderbird/xxxxxxxx.default/mail
to be
/home/user/.thunderbird/xxxxxxxx.default/orig-mail
and
/home/user/.thunderbird/xxxxxxxx.default/news
to be
/home/user/.thunderbird/xxxxxxxx.default/orig-news
Then using the network (windows network) I copied to a temporary
location in the target linux pc, the following folder and contents from
the windows pc
c:\documents and settings\username\application data\thunderbird
This means I had the set of files to choose from, from the windows PC,
available on the linux pc without any further network factors.
I then copied and pasted the following in the linux pc from their places
in the temporary location to
/home/user/.thunderbird/xxxxxxxx.default/
news (folder)
mail (folder)
and prefs.js (file)
After restarting thunderbird - it seems to work.....
:-) :-) :-) :-)
