To do both is maybe not the best of all ideas. I started with windows 1.0
until XP. There is nothing compared with Linux on the server side and even
on desktop I am using KDE / Gnome with increasing enthusiasm. Just
imagine, starting the "Explorer" pendant Konqueror and typing camera:/ to
access your camera and see pictures like on any other drive! There are so
many examples about the cleverness, stability and many more things: I
touch XP less and less. (playing Gothic 2)
But again: servers are different.
A collegue of mine got a seminar paid for Windows Server 2003. It took 6
weeks and he told me that in the end NOTHING was working as it should. The
cost of the seminar was 3000 Euros and the trainer said, that this can
happen. He meant that it was sufficient to understand the idea ...
Although I don't consider myself as an expet at all, I set up a
SuSE 9.2 Linux server, SAMBA (for the WINDOWS boxes), DHCP, Apache with
some modules, mysql and after 3 hours, the whole thing was running without
a flaw, all new updates over internet included. Of course it will take
more adjustments for the special situation everybody is facing. Er,
evaluation? Gneeheehee.
License for 5 boxes? rofl.
so?
