Kmail copies spam automatically from inbox to outbox

I am running Kmail 1.7.1, as provided by SuSE 9.2 i386, updated by YOU.
Some incoming messages, mostly spam with multiple addressees, are being
copied automatically to the outbox, while reading from a pop3 server.
I have spamassassin active, and many filters on. The undesired copying
seems to be correlated with Kmail being saturated by incoming mail.
Is there a known remedy?
