That method does not work to find it -- it returns this thread.
And no way to go to another matching thread.
I have the group on my Mozilla email so I searched for you as sender and
found the "kde-start no longer working" thread and the answer you were
referencing (too bad Mozilla email does not let you search the body of
usenet messages - it does with regular email).
So I made the changes, editing both files with joe, and got the same
results.
Before the change, in text mode, I did
# startx > startx.prob
and then exited using the menu
startx.prob contains the following:
xauth: (stdin):1: bad "add" command line
xauth: (stdin):2: bad "add" command line
xauth: (stdin):3: bad "add" command line
X Windows System Version 6.8.2

Could not init font path element /usr/X11R6/lob/X11/fonts/CID, removing from list! /etc/X11/Xim: checking wether an input method should be started INPUT_METHOD is not set or empty (no user selected input) Trying to start a default input method for the local en_US.UTF-8 There is not default input method at this point I exited. This is not exactly verbatum. I had to hand type it in here. Everything I think relevent is here. After the change I did the same procedure and the output file differed only in the time it was done. I then went to yast to edit the files and found two places in each where it needed changing (I confirmed later that they were only on line 9 of each). Changing it there, and doing the startx > ... gave me the same results. So now, I'm going to reboot it and see what happens. Thanks, but I may be back again. John
