SuSE Linux 9.3 as guest OS

Dear VMware users

For a remotely located Linux server, I'm using VMware to be able maintain
the console over VNC (www.realvnc.com) when for example a kernel security
update fails. Details: Host OS is Windows 2000 SP4 with all Microsoft
patches on a Intel Pentium II/400 MHz, VMware version is VMware Workstation
4.5.2 and the guest OS (the actual server) is SuSE Linux 9.3.

First problem: I'm unable to install VMware Tools on the Linux guest system.
The Linux guest actually works also without VMware tools but the clock has a
reasonable drift.

I already followed the tech tips at

http://www.vmware.com/support/kb/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=1227

Playing with the virtual CPU clock frequence allowed me dramatically adjust
the VMware guest's drift but is still about 7-8 minutes per 6 hours and it
varies when I work on the W2K console or let it untouched.

xntpd is unable to syncronize the time (it jumps to den LOCAL source and
doesn't use the external reference server) in that case.

Does anybody have any experience with SuSE Linux 9.3 as guest OS?

Thanks in advance.

              Andreas
