  I have found this issue from choosing one of the open GL
screensavers.

  Choose a different screen saver, and see if the problem goes away.

  Also, it could be your power management setting. Make sure that you
are NOT turning off hard drives. There is no need to sleep elements
of your machine (other than the screen) if it is not a laptop.

 As far as my claim about the GL selections, I have had that happen to
me. I had not yet installed the Mfgrs driver (nvidia in my case)
allowing the 3d hardware to be initialized.
