All of a sudden, on June 25, Knode and Pan quit being able to log onto
my ISP. The error message is "Incorrect username or password." Of
course, since I am using Linus, my ISP does not have a clue on how to
help me get them back up and running. I have four copies of Suse
running on two different machines, all have the same symptoms - cannot
connect because the server will not recognize the username and password.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled, no go. But then I would not expect
it to, as the symptom is the same on all machines.
