There is a bug which means that means that sound does not work using the
Shuttle SN25P and, I assume, other systems using via envy24 chipset.
There is a solution to this problem here:
http://www.nakack.net/?p=19
This just involves the change of one integer value in the kernel but I don't
have the experience to patch the kernel if its not packaged in RPM and
anyway it would just get overwritten by YOU. Also the reason that I got
SUSE in the first place was so that I don't have to spend all my time
loading and patching software.
Also there seems to be some confusion about whether this bug is due to Alsa?
The release notes for Alsa version 1.0.9 specifically says that it now
works with Shuttle SN25P but this bug report suggests that the problem
still exists and is due to alsa:
https://bugtrack.alsa-project.org/alsa-bug/view.php?id=1040
Given that the bug is so well documented and can be fixed by such a simple
change and that it affects a large number of people, does anyone know if
SUSE/Novell are going to issue a fix in the near future? I would have
thought it would be easier for them to make this small change that to deal
with all the people experiencing this problem. Is there anyway that SUSE
could be persuaded to do something about this?
Thanks,
Martin
