Getting rid of SUSE splash screen

When SUSE 9.3 starts up, they display their rather ugly yellow and
black startup screen. I have been able to turn it off during most of
the boot process by modifying the grub config file.

However, when the X signon screen comes up, that same screen is used
(with locations for user name and password to be entered) instead of
the setup I have specified through the KDE control center Login Manger
(and yes, I did make all the changes in administrator mode).

What config file do I have to modify to get the changes I want?
