I have realised why I was looking for an 'IMAP' user and password:
in kmail, configure.... the modify window is presented, entitled
'Account type: IMAP Account'
and one of the checkboxes is
'Store IMAP password in Configuration file' (yes/no)
Which made me believe that there was a separate account with (ID and )
password, similar to samba.
So just now I am not sure why the offer is there for the configuration
file thing - if the User password is the same as the one the User is
logged on with. Maybe all will become clearer in time.....
As a beginner, I do like KDE, but, as a beginner, the help files are a
bit thin :-(
