good for you!

I do not know. It sounds as if you would need something like (norton?)
ghost to create an image copy of the whole drive onto another drive.
With the ghost version I used, I did not get sucess with this over a
network, and after several tries, gave up and did it locally - a
desktop PC not laptop).

I very much doubt it. it is rather limited, and uses a special format
dependojing on the actual bachup program version afaik, and you need a
working 'doze suystem to use and restore files. #it is an image captuter
and restore you sem to describe.
Even copying all the files normally will not create the booting sector
on the hd (I think).

suse is a particular serving suggestion of programs and applications
running on a linux kernel.
Suse comes with Open Office.org which will run and save as m$ office
files. BTW OO.o isfree.

please see 2) above

9.3 is quite good at wlan drivers, however, wlan cards use chipsets from
manufacturers - some of which do not cooperate with the open source
community. SO the answer is - possibly some trouble, or not. If the
worst, for the very inexperienced, the fallback may be to go to some
effort to buy a card which is easy to install (I did this myself in a
laptop with a wlan pcmcia card). Other comments and more research may
help more.

asaik there are equivalents (various) to messenger in linux. I do not
use it and dont know if any important messenger settings or info cannot
be imported. Others may help, or search.
PS
Linux is a sophisticated os and it has taken me some time to become
familiar enough to be reasonably confident about what is expected of me,
what risks, and where and how to get information. Unlike 'doze a
significant amount of user admin knowledge and decision is required,
also it is much easier (as admin or 'root' user) to completely screw up.
As a newbie, and too curious for my competence, I was glad to find that
it was incredibly easy to re-install........ :-)
