I am a new user of Linux and however difficult I find some tasks, I
don't ever want to go back to Windows.
My bash version is:
GNU bash, version 3.00.16(1)-release (i586-suse-linux)[/COLOR]
My Kernel is:
kernel -2.6.11.4-21.8-default
I am using Suse 9.3, with 1.8GHZ proc, 1GB RAM, and 80GB internal
hard drive, on a dual boot system w/M$ xp pro sp2, this is a laptop. I
tend to have a lot of programs installed in both OSes. Including VMWare
on Suse 9.3 with M$ Xp Pro sp2, Sun Solaris 9, and M$ 2003 server
standard, virtual machines. I do not like to keep any of my personal
files stored on the local hard drive. I also keep a backup of all my
installed programs on an external drive. My external drive is an 80GB
USB 2.0 however, my USB port is only 1.0.
When I boot into Windows it seems to access this external a lot
faster then it does while I am in Suse, using the 1.0 port. Suse 9.3
finds and mounts this drive without any issues at all, as does M$.
However I also have a PCMCIA usb 2.0 card bus by Billionton Systems
Inc. M$ does not recagnize this card at all, I have to download and
install the drivers every time, but once that is done I can access my
external much faster. Suse 9.3 on the other hand does recagnize this
card, and installs all the correct dirvers, it appears to be perfect
when I check the properties in YASTs hardware configuration (see
below)

When I connect my external drive to this USB 2.0 card, Suse does
not see it, or if it does I do not know where to look for it in order
to access it.
Can someone please help me with this problem? In no way do I want
to go back to using M$, just to be able to access my external drive. I
like Linux, esp Suse and the GUI has made my change in OS a lot easier
however, I am still weak with the commmand promt or shell, but
learning. I can also be contacted via e-mail, drogers@yhots.com.
Thank you for helping this Linux wannabe...
