No, the 5 CD set doesn't contain the 64 bit stuff, ONLY the DVD version
does. See the SuSe website and another thread just near this one titled
"64 bit goof-up?" for more info on this. Essentially the CD set contains
the full 32 bit version only, whilst the DVD contains the full 64 bit and
a reasonable selection / most of the 32 bit version.

I have a similar situation on my work box (2.8GHz Intel Dual Core). I
initially installed the 32 bit version, as I didn't have the 64 bit at
the time. I started the upgrade the other day, but chickened out when the
installer complained that it couldn't resolve some dependency involving
a library which reports the system as 32 bit to those 32 bit apps that
ask it (I can't remember the name of the library) I figured that might be
 a good thing to happen, lest they get upset and sulk.

I'd be very interested to see how you go though. If it works for you, I
would probably try as well. I agree with you, and suspect it *should*
work ... Good theory that :)
