/wine/ stands for "Wine Is No Emulator", to which the developers add
that "Wine is an API for Windows programs that translates the calls of
those programs to UNIX binary code".
Special versions of /wine/ exist, such as /Crossover/ /Office/ which
claims to run all of Microsoft Office on Gnu/Linux (and other UNIX
systems) without effort, and /WineX,/ which aims at DirectX
compatibility in Gnu/Linux (and other UNIX systems).
The /wine/ developers also provide for the /crossover/ /plugins/ that
allow Windows-specific browser plugins to be used in Konqueror or
Mozilla on UNIX platforms.
Fire up your favorite webbrowser and surf to http://www.winehq.com for
more information and details. ;-)

I seriously doubt that the NCC-1701-D would be running Win95 (or _any_
Windows version), though... :-þ
Lt. Worf: "Captain, two Romulan Warbirds have decloaked at 2000 meters
off of our bow. They have raised shields and they are powering up their
disrupter banks!"
Cpt. Picard : "Red alert! All hands to battle stations! Raise shields
and ready phasers!"
Lt. Worf: "I'm sorry Captain, the tactical computer system has crashed.
The blue screen advised me to send a subspace message to Microsoft Inc.
on Earth. I've manually reset the system by unplugging the optical
power conduit. It is now running a scandisk at 5% and counting. We
will have full shield and weapons capacity by the end of this week's
episode. The documentation does however specify that our sensors
should only detect one Warbird at a time or that instability may
occur..."
Windows is more something the Borg would use...: "We are Borg, Open
Source is futile, UNIX is irrelevant, you will be assimilated..."
:-þ
