I downloaded SUSE 10.0 beta3 (5 CD set) and attempted to
install in the way that I have always done with previous
SUSE distributions but ran into a snag.
Step 1:
Mounted each of the *.iso files as in:
mount -t iso9660 -o loop disk1.iso /mnt/disk1
then copied the disk's contents to a directory. After doing
this for all 5 disks, the directory contained the complete
SUSE distribution.
Step 2:
Burned disk1 to a CD to use as boot disk.
Step 3:
Started installation into an empty partition using that CD.
The first screen in the installation process allows you to
enter the installation source (key F3 or F4, I don't remember)
where you can enter CD, FTP, NFS, etc.
Here is my problem: In previous versions of SUSE, you could select
"A Hard-disk partition" as installation source. This option has
been removed in SUSE 10.0 beta3. Therefore I am not able to use
the source directory that I prepared in Step 1 above.
I haven't seen a mention of a rationale for removing the hard-disk
install option. I wonder if it has been dropped by accident from
10.0 beta3. Does anyone know?
