I bought SUSE Linux 9.3 for Dummies and tried to install on a spare
machine - W98 already installed, 1GHZ processor, 256 MB RAM, 38GB HD. I
robbed the DVD drive from this machine in order to install.
I went for the Dummies route because my I only have a dial-up connection,
and from what I've read one needs a broadband connection in order to
download Linux from the web.
Anyhow, when I go through the installation the SUSE 9.3 DVD checks my system
out and under the "Software" category it returns a fault with the DVD - I
KNOW, I should have written it down but I didn't!! But the fault indication
is in red, and prefixed with "DVD\........\.. " and when I try to proceed
regardless I get a mesage saying something like "this option must be
resolved".
>From what I've read in the book, CD/DVD drive problems/conflicts are not
generally an issue. The drive in question is an AOpen x52 Combo.
I'd appreciate any ideas to get me up and running. Thanks.
