Thus far, it seems you're right. I downloaded a 9.3 ISO image, burnt
it to a DVD, failed miserably booting from it, bought a packaged 9.3
from a local store and installed it over my prior 9.1 - wireless was
working fine immediately (until I hit something and broke it).

Rebooting that now for further diagnosis.
