I have a newly bought Netgear modem/router/wireless access point - my
old kit died last week also :( I have a W2K laptop and the offending
machine (WinXP) both happily connecting under their various Windows
OS's, plus my wife's and daughter's W2K laptops.

I've hardwired the IP addresses as 192.168.0.x for all - the new
Netgear router does show all IP/MAC addresses as connected, again if
each PC is running Windows.

Yep - that's what's giving me hope. There's apparently something in
the downloaded updates to Linux that unsets a value somewhere ... it's
a matter of tracking it down. Strange that NOT updating during the
install, following a successful Internet connection check, should also
'break' the wireless connection though.

I'll continue playing and report back for interest ...
