Provided Gnome is installed, you can switch to whichever desktop you want.
The network stuff should be OK, but I can't say about bookmarks etc.
Incidentally, there are other desktops besides KDE and Gnome that you can
also use if you want. When you logon, there's a place where you can
choose session type. Also, you can even have multiple sessions open at the
same, with different desktops, such and KDE, Gnome, Fwvm etc.
