Well, I believe since the time of OS 8 nearly every GUI has evolved so
that she'd have to learn quite a bit, even if moving to OS X... except
that they hid the BSD behind it so well some people don't even know there
is a unix behind it.

May be gnome (at least as I'd judge from the standard installation on my
debian sarge) is a better choice for the beginnig than KDE because of
some elements that come quite near to the "finder" in mac's upper right
corner. Menu structures and options are also more reduced in comparison
to KDE.

Mac users often don't go for thousands of elements in the graphicel
interface, it's much more symbol based (thinking of even unloading media
by simply dragging the CD or floppy symbol to the trash bin), not so much
work with mouse options, desktop menus and stuff. This all is pretty much
different from a mac OS 8 when it comes to linux on a PC...

Mac users quite often don't even want to know so much about their computer
except where to find a symbol. In linux, even SuSE, it's still good and
often necessary to learn about it when it comes to devices and so (like
seeing nothing in folders of an unmounted hd partition - even if the
folder of that device shows up in a file manager, but surprisingly
empty... might cause a panic attack if you don't warn her.

But I think it's doable... What do her friends use? If also mac, nearly no
one can give her advices any more, share games, programms and so on. But
she might come to love this new world. It's worth a try, if it fails,
wasn't too much an investment anyway.
