Thanks Karen. directories are all mounted, but it seems to be more
associated with open office org for linux (kde use), maybe in the
versions of oo.o I am using, than the linux configuration. oo.o works ok
in this respect in 'doze over the smb network.
If there is a way of doing it which is not pointy clicky I would be
interested, but, it is not really for me, it is for someone else who
*definitely* requires a 'doze compatibility (oo.o) and very pointy
clicky.....

OO.o and smb network function from linux does not seem to have been a
priority for development. Understandably I suppose.

Anyway, nfs is now being used, and does look very straightforward, and
apparently its use solves the problem for oo.o.
