Sounds to me like you've not tried to manage MS SQL server. I have and
it sucks. As for MySQL, that is a freaking toy and should never be used
for anything beyond playing. If you want a real, free SQL server under
Linux (or Unix for that matter), use PostgreSQL. It is better than
Oracle and goes head to head against DB2.

I've been an admin for Solaris, Windows NT 4, Windows 2000 server and
Windows 2003 server and Linux. Windows is the only one that required me
to take training.
