In a previous discussion regarding USB hard and flash drives, several
folks responded with, "it works here" or something similar. So my question
is, how well did it work? Was anyone successful in writing large
files, > 300megs, to a USB flash drive. My attempts on three different
machines have resulted in "deformatting" the drives; Cruze Micro 1G &
512megs, and Sony 1G vault. On the third trial the Cruze 1G was rendered
unrecognizable, and consequentally, unformatable by both Suse and Windows.
The other two were reformatable only with Windows. Deformatting occurs
whether sync or nosync writing. Writing starts and preceeds as expected
until nearly finished. Then the message (paraphrased), "unable to write to
USB device" pops up. Suse 9.3 had no trouble writing large files to these
specific USB flash drives. Copying large files from the flash drives to
harddrive progresses without problems.
Thanks.
