What does your BIOS have as 'drive configuration'? SATA? legacy? Whatever
you have now, try the other one. You may have to make the zip a PATA. If
the channel is already PATA, maybe it has to be SATA. Just a wild guess.

One other thing. I've seen some machines that have the BIOS set to Plug and
Play and they sometimes disable the ports on re-boot. Turn off P&P if it is
enabled.
