I went to Nvidia homepage and there was written (via a link to:ftp://
ftp.suse.com/......nvidai-installer-HOWTO/#1)
1. (open)SuSE Linux 10.0-IA32
It is recommended to use YOU (YaST Online Update) for (re)installation
of the nvidia driver. There are several reasons for this. First, it's
simple. Second, and this is the most important one, you won't need to
recompile the nvidia kernel module after a kernel update.
Inside YOU enable "Installable and Installed Patches" for "Show
PatchGeForce2 GTS/GeForce2 Pro 0x0150
Category" and select "Download NVIDIA(r) Graphics Driver" from the
patches list (usually at the bottom of the list). Note, that you need
to mark it as "Update" (right mouse click) if you already installed it
before and the driver was uninstalled - for any reason. Proceed as
usual now. After YOU has finished restart your Xserver (i.e. logout
from your Xsession) and you're fine.
That is what I did. And that gave me the dummy driver without 3D !! ??
(This is exactly the same as I did it in 9.3)
I also found the following in the document:
19. Support for legacy chipsets
nVidia dropped support for legacy chipsets with release 1.0-7664. Currently
these are the following:
NVIDIA chip name Device PCI ID
------------------------------- -------------------------------
RIVA TNT 0x0020
RIVA TNT2/TNT2 Pro 0x0028
RIVA TNT2 Ultra 0x0029
Vanta/Vanta LT 0x002C
RIVA TNT2 Model 64/Model 64 Pro 0x002D
Aladdin TNT2 0x00A0
GeForce 256 0x0100
GeForce DDR 0x0101
Quadro 0x0103
GeForce2 GTS/GeForce2 Pro 0x0150
GeForce2 Ti 0x0151
GeForce2 Ultra 0x0152
Quadro2 Pro 0x0153
If you're affected by this use release 1.0-7174 or older.
I'm using "GeForce2 GTS/GeForce2 Pro".
So, probably the installation method above will not work and I have to load
the old releese 1.0-7664 ??
Which one was used in SuSe9.3 ? (since that one worked on my pc)
