How do you fixed installed packages?

Hi ALL

I have a machine I use for tests. I am trying to learn how to fix packages
after you mistakenly screw something. As example, I tried removing
evolution and re-install it. Now when I launch it, it generates an error
witout giving me the option to view the error, just close or submit a bug.
How does one go about learning those things?
