Energy saver problem

OK, this is beginning to annoy me.

In the control centre, I've set-up the screen-saver to kick in after 45
minutes, the energy saving to kick in after 1 hour to stand-by and afer
about 90-minutes for the stand-by and 100 minutes for suspend.

I have the screen saver set to cut in after 45 minutes - I work on two
machines a lot, so it is useful to have information displayed on one
monitor while working on another.

The problem is, with these settings, it puts the monitors into standby mode
after about 5-10 minutes. If I switch off the energy controls, it still
turns them off after 5-10 minutes!

Have I missed something somewhere in the settings? (I did some googling, but
couldn't find anything useful searching for linux screensaver standby,
gives the problem the other way round - monitor won't go into standby
mode.)

This is happening on both my nVidia machines and my ATi based laptop.

Dave
