Many thanks to the people who have answered my original question. I
had not realised that the exact version of Linux would be so
important.
I have found that the version of Suse Linux that I did have on my
system was 7.3 - at least that is what it says on the box.
BUT it seems that I cannot load this any more - (my Linux boot
discs don't seem to work any more) perhaps this is because I tried
out a Linux 9.0 Trial CD which I acquired somehow.
They did work when I originally put Linux 7.3 onto my computer- I
had a whole hard disk just for Linux. I suppose I could re-install
7.3 but.......
Noting that many of the postings on this newsgroup refer to version
10, I wonder whether it might be more sensible for me to get a more
up-to-date version (e.g. ver 10) before trying to go further and
then, no doubt, asking for the help which members so kindly offer.
One other point: Linux for Dummies... which was kindly suggested by
one person, is this generally felt to be the best introduction? I
expect I can get a copy on Ebay, if it is.
Sorry if my questions are naive.. but the very fact that there
are so many postings to this group would suggest that there
must be good reasons for persevering with (Suse-)Linux.
