I tried upgrading OpenOffice 2.0 from 1.1 on SUSE 9.1
but had a problem with a locked database. I rebooted
(Ctrl-Alt-Bkspace) and tried again. Same problem. I
changed to root and tried again. Success. No error
messages and everything seemed to install.
Problem is I can't find OO 2.0 on the KDE menu. There is a
menu entry for Office - Office Suite, but that opens OO 1.1
(which I thought would go away after an update).
If I click on an OO file in Konqueror, it opens the document,
but it is 1.1
Now I half expected to not be able to access OOo 2.0 since I
upgraded as root, but I thought that changing owner would
fix the problem. Live and learn.
Upgrade details:
I used the file,
OOo_2.0.0_LinuxIntel_install.tar.gz
and got the directory,
OOO680_m3_native_packed-2_en-US.8968
I updated all the RPMs, including the SUSE menu file with
the command rpm -Uvh *.rpm.
Yast shows the rpms as installed but with lock icons.
Questions:
1. Where is the executable file that would start OO from the
command line?
2. Do I have to change ownership of certain files? Which
ones?
3. Should I remove OpenOffice with yast and start over? If
so, what is the remedy to a locked database message?
4. Is doing updates as root a dangerous practice, or is that
what you are suppose to do?
Thanks in advance for any replies,
Don
