For the machine without a sound card, try disabling it at the system level
(not just at the KDE level). I'm not sure how to do this, maybe you can
just make sure Yast->Hardware->Sound is empty. You can also try disabling
alsasound from running at boot.

As for the machine with the USB sound card, I'm not sure what you can do.
