I have CrossOver 5 Pro here. I have tried to load visio 2003 pro and
project pro 2003 into it with different results. Neither of them worked
reliably and I got a lot of screen corruption and the program would crash
or suddenly not be able to open data files right there. On the other
hand, I have used Visio 2000 and Project 2000 with good results overall
on earlier versions of CrossOver.

Since I pretty much have to have alternatives which directly map to the
Microsoft programs as closely as possible, open source alternatives which
cannot open proprietary file formats like VSD or MPP are not useful to me
at all. I simply don't have time to go through some export/import thing
which may just add even more work to the mix.

Project Desktop opens Project files directly so I can share Project
datasets with others by importing/exporting the file types and then
working on them and saving/exporting in the new format. Visio would
require me to step back to 2000 and use it. At this point, I am using
Visio 2003 and it works for me either in VMware or on a native XP system.

Until there is a reliable way to directly open VSD files in a open source
visualization program, I split my time and work in XP Pro on things that
I share on a samba server.
