If you want that and have a spare machine, outfit it with Linux and run SVN
on it. That's a much better solution than fiddling with files on a FAT
partition - especially when programming.

Other than that, a FAT partition is nice to move some stuff around, but if
you're at it, the spare machine could run NFS and Samba and service your
development machine through that.
