More likely he installed it without ACPI. It has a 64bit processor and,
consequently, needs to have ACPI enabled.

I met this problem when I installed 10.0 on my 64bit box[0]. Past
experience made me get into the habit of installing with ACPI disabled
and, even though I installed the 32bit version on the 64bit system and
it booted just perfectly, repeating the process using the 64bit version
produced a hard lockup just as above.

[0] was supposed to dual boot both 32 and 64 bit versions so I could
package both 32 and 64 bit RPMs. After I found out what was causing the
lockups I wiped the 32bit and reinstalled as 64bit only, with another
box used for 32bit builds.
