Thank you for the response. I gave it a try but it didn't seem to help. I
think there is a problem in foomatic. I tried removing it and reinstalling
it with Yast but got the same result. Every attemp to print results in an
"abort". I find the following in the CUPS error log:
/usr/lib64/cups/filter/foomatic-rip (PID 8255) for job 2.

Previously when I changed the loglevel to debug I got the following
