Joe, I sure hope that this experience is NOT going to burn you out on
either SuSE or GNU/Linux in general.

Although I consider myself quite adept at using command line, I simply
*prefer* GUI use, so I quite agree with you.

I don't use the latest SuSE version, so I can't speak to the issues you're
experiencing. I still use SuSE 9.2, and intend to continue using it at
least until 10.1 is issued. Over the last two decades I've learned to be
patient, and always try to avoid ANY XX.0 releases. They tend to be
buggy, and that seems to simply be the nature of the beast, in ANY OS.

I CAN tell you that I've never used anti-virus from any company in Linux.
I've never needed to. Having said that, I'll tell you that I'm prepared
to at any time. I always have two or three bootable Linux LiveCD versions
available from which I can boot my machine, and run ClamAV or other
versions. I recommend "Insert Linux" CDs as they are quite compact, and
have virtually ANY tools you may require, the ISO image is less than 50mb
in size, and the image file can even be burnt onto those tiny CDs which
hold 50mb of data. You could quite literally carry one of those CDs
anytime in your pocket. And of course, there are MANY bootable CD linux
versions which have antivirus tools included.

If you want a bug free version of SuSE, I would recommend version 9.3. It
is refined, tested, and simply works!

Good Luck!
