I too am glad that Novell will continue to distribute and support KDE.
As another poster has mentioned, the menu structure is quite easily
customized/modified to your liking.
However, I would submit to you this idea: As you become a more
experienced and able user, you may find it quite easier as well as *much*
faster to simply ignore the menu altogether. I personally find it much
faster to simply forego the mouse, and open up the 'Run Command' dialog
box with Alt-F2, and simply issue the commands to launch any app I like.
Most applications have very self-explanatory names or executables. For
example, instead of navigating the menu structure to launch Xmms, it is
far faster and easier to issue the command 'xmms'. Of course, some apps
don't have an executable which is named what you may guess. But as a
less-experienced user, there's no need to 'guess'. If you're unsure about
an app's name, then the easiest way to find out might be to open Kpackage,
and click the 'magnifying glass' icon to search for the name of the app.
Then on the right side pane, click for a file listing, and see the name of
the app's executable. Another example might be Real Player. It's
executable is called 'realplay'.
You might find, after using this method of launching apps, that the menu
simply becomes immaterial or irrelevant. If you're coming to Linux from
the windoz universe, you're probably hopelessly addicted to and dependent
upon the mouse, but thankfully, we're all capable of growth.
