Re: Problems with Suse 10.0

Hey all;

I just switched over to Suse from Gentoo linux...I first installed Suse 2 days ago on to my Toshiba Satellite 3000 laptop. The install went perfectly. I updated everything during the installation and then rebooted to login to KDE. I noticed that my lcd would go in to standby after several minutes. I liked that because I couldn't even get that working in Gentoo. Then I ran YOU again to besure I got every update. I noticed there was an optional NVIDIA driver update. I installed this beause my laptop uses a Geforce2 Go video card. Doing this totally messed up my system and I then decided to reinstall Suse from scratch. So I got everything reinstalled. I am using a clean installation now and I have all updates installed. My lcd no longer goes in to standby. I can't even force it using "xset dpms force standby". Doing that command causes the screen to go blank but the backlighting doesn't turn off. DPMS is enabled in my xorg config file. Why did it work before and not now? I have no options in my bios that control anything related to power management. I'm also having a problem where when I logout of kde I get the kde crash handler saying the kicker app has crashed. It does that every single time I logout. So far I am really liking Suse 10. I just hope I can get these issues resolved.

Thanks for your time.
Ok dpms is working again....sort of. I installed the 8172 nvidia drivers. When the lcd goes in to standby I have to cycle virtual terminals for it to come out. I didn't think my card would be supported in the latest drivers (geforce2 go). GLX even works. I'll just play around with different driver versions. I'm sure one of them has to work perfectly. Thank you all for the input.
