So you start the GUI, open a terminal, do a ssh to the machine and then

Read my lips: GUI = GRAPHICAL user interface.

Yes, that is the part where you run your Konsole, Eterm, wterm, xterm or whatever on. :-D

<snip>

I have never had to conf my server from there, it's just that I WISH it would be possible to LOG IN via browser/webmin as a NORMAL USER.

I just use ssh and do everything I need with YaST in CLI. Hell, I do that now, most of the time, sitting at my desk, looking at two 1600x1200 GUI screens with 4 workspaces each. So speed or space is not a real issue.

I do with Yast everything that can easily be done with it. I just love Yast. I advice to use it to everybody (not that so many want my advice)

But there are things it does poorly:

Samba:It causes a lot of questions here about Samba, since it does not add the users and its

firewall adjustment is poor: It asks whether you want to have a hole in the firewall (no, I just want remote control, but no whole in firewall?)
OK I want a whole, but maybe I do not want to use a default known port.
Maybe I want to change the port later. Maybe I want to time the firewall ports, (open/closed different times of day) In general I want more control to firewall.

Now, for example a beginner friendly but still configurable is Guarddog. It's even in the distro, but if you install it Yast goes crazy about the firewall. Tried that ever? I mean Yast go south because of Guarddog?

Cron: It can not make cron jobs.

There's a bunch of others but these are things that are important for beginners to adjust with a toll like Yast. The rest is more like "guruer"

And one fantastic thing: You can install a (headless if wanted)
server without X and still use Yast!
