Christian,
What is Dazuko
http://www.dazuko.org/gen.shtml#WHAT-IS
Dazuko is developed by H+BEDV Datentechnik GmbH, better known as
AntiVir. AntiVir is a free virus scanner for Window and Linux machines.
Dazuko can run several daemons in one real time scan. Dazuko also can be
use by every real time virus scan software package who is or will be
developed, commercial or non commercial. Its possible to scan every
Linux file, which already runs or will start to running, in real time
scanning. But you also can scan a part of your machine, for example your
home directory (KlamAV manager).
It make sens to scan on window viruses because, not every one uses Linux
and I don't want to infect my windows friends with a virus who possibly
travels whit my e-mail traffic. And you said it by your self, most of
the viruses are windows viruses but not all of them!
I'm using AntiVir Linux Version 2.1.5-34, I'm testing KlamAV Version
0.32 with ClamAV version 0.87 and I will be testing Samba-vscan. Why,
because I've been curious for long time, since the first virus, about
anti virus software and specially in the non commercial products. I'm
not a specialist in viruses and virus scanners but I now a lot about it.
I'm a Linux user for about one year now, but I'm still running Windows
XP SP2 and scan it via Linux. Btw Linux is much better than Windows!
(I've tested Fedora 3, Mandrive, Debian, ArkLinux, Knoppix, SUSE 9.2,
SUSE 9.3 and now SUSE 10.0. Fedora is fabulous to learn to handle with
Linux and Unix, but SUSE is much more developed, more professional. If
I'm right Fedora and SUSE are both coming out of the Red Hat stable).
Samba-vscan
If you look one the site of Official OpenAntiVirus.org Projects who
promotes samba-vscan they say:
http://www.openantivirus.org/projects.php
samba-vscan is a proof-of-concept module for Samba, which uses the VFS
(virtual file system) features of Samba 2.2.x/3.0 to provide an
on-access Samba anti-virus. Of course, Samba has to be compiled with VFS
support. It currently works with ClamAV (clamd/libclamav), FRISK F-Prot
Daemon, F-Secure AV, H+BEDV AntiVir, Kaspersky AntiVirus, McAfee/NAI
uvscan, mks32, OpenAntiVirus ScannerDaemon, Sophos Sweep, Symantec
AntiVirus Engine (via ICAP) or Trend Micro.
That means that samba-vscan is a universal manager for several virus
scanners. So the question "What do I have to manage there"
is out of the question! And if you run ClamAV with samba-vscan you do
need to run Dazuko!
